CCRP Catastrophe Sparks Calls for Concern

Wish I could say I’ve got good news, but alas it is just the same old crap. Yesterdays CCRP meeting was cancelled, due to concerns that members of the Proud Boys were going to disrupt the membership meeting. Dear Lord, what now.

The Proud Boys, the Nevada chapter who describe themselves as a bunch of fun loving yet aggressive activist, have been making inroads into the County and State party since 2020. According to letters I’ve seen, the PB’s were encouraged to cast votes to censure Secretary of State, Barbara Csegavske. It’s still in debate who asked them to come, but suffice it to say, the Proud Boys are taking credit for casting the deciding votes, leading the censure of the Csegavske over an investigation into voting irregularities during the 2020 Presidential election.

Now the PB’s are setting their sites on a takeover of the County Party. According to CCRP Political Director, Richard McClean, “it will be a cold day in hell before I allow a racist group become members of the CCRP”. This isn’t hearsay. I heard it straight from the horses mouth. McClean reiterated, there was a consensus vote taken to keep the Proud Boys from becoming members (potentially controlling members) of the Clark County Republican Party. On principle this goes against the GOP, but this is how serious the issue of racism is to the Party.

So what’s the big deal about the Proud Boys?

The hubbub revolves around 3 main players Paul Laramie, Rudy Clai and Mark Anthony. These 3 horsemen’s names continue to popup when speaking of the Proud Boys in Vegas. The PB’s have a history of being a right-wing aggressive tactic group. Their beginnings can be traced back to comedian turned activist Gavin McInnis, who had enough of the being pushed around because of the racial history of the USA. It’s especially ironic that a group founded by a Canadian comedian could just a few years later, be linked to alt-right, white supremacy leanings.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center [SPLC] a left-wing, self appointed arbiter of the truth, the PB’s have been listed as a hate group. Anything coming out of such organizations must be taken with a grain of salt, but one thing we can be sure of, the reputation of the Proud Boys isn’t that of Boy Scouts and sipping tea. They are an aggressive group, utilizing aggressive tactics to get their point across.

The Fallout

The effects of an association with the Proud Boys will be profound. Over the past 4 years, the Trump Administration has made significant inroads into the Black and Hispanic communities. Any group labeled “White Supremacist” is likely to scare away minority voters. After 60 years of chipping away at the stranglehold Dems have had on voters of color, now is no time to be wrangled with yet another racist nail in our political coffin. Unlike the Confederate flag, which was established by Democrats in the South, the Proud Boys fancy themselves as Trump supporters from the get go.

The second issue is the political fallout. Democrats have been wrestling internally with their own Socialist, Communist outliers. Republicans have been using this as a wedge issue, since the middle of the Trump term. Now the Biden administration is finding this noose around his neck, which has been the gift that keeps on giving. Even AOC and The Squad are considered the best thing that ever happened to the GOP, because their ideology is so outside of the realm of reality.

If the Republican Party in Nevada isn’t able to do something to get rid of the Proud Boys and their brand of conservativism, then the midterms of 2022 are in jeopardy. Even if candidates who may not know anything about the Proud Boys and their beliefs will be collateral damage. In addition, this fracture in the Party could last for a generation as this faction begins to dig its heals into an already tender rift in the local Party.

It is up to local leaders to decide what is best for the Party and what is most expedient for themselves. Chairman McDonald and Sajdak are at loggerheads when it comes to personalities and methodologies, but war makes strange bedfellows. For the sake of the Party, the Proud Boys must be dealt with.
